Area of Expertise:
In my role in the School of Mathematics and Statistics in UCD, I coordinate our undergraduate initial teacher education programme in Science and Mathematics. My research interests span initial teacher education and teacher education, specifically in Mathematics and Science, and my work aims to investigate and promote models of innovative professional development in these subjects. In parallel, I am a social innovator in science and have an interest in how citizens are impacted through citizen science / public engagement projects. In my drive to deepen the relationship between science and society, I have directed and participated in a range of public engagement and citizen science initiatives in Ireland. In promoting an informed engagement of citizens in research and innovation, I am renowned as a science communicator in print (regular columnist), on television (national TV show on science research), and on radio (regular contributor on communicating science) and am often asked to participate in programmes to communicate research findings or provide short articles in popular literature. Furthermore, I have an extensive social media following on twitter where I share and disseminate issues related to science, citizen science, and education.

Working Groups
WG2: Develop synergies with education
This group will focus on the learning outcomes of CS projects. The objective of this WG is to increase awareness about the possibilities of CS in education, by collating the knowledge of current practices and underscoring the meaning of CS in formal and informal education.
WG6: Overaching - Cross-WG-Synthesis and overarching measures
Cross-WG-Synthesis and overarching measures will be taken to ensure learning and the creation of an added value of the Action as a whole.
