First Italian Citizen Science Conference

The First Italian Citizen Science Conference
Setting path in citizen science: biodiversity, networks, open science and platforms.

The First Italian Citizen Science Conference will take place in Rome on November 23rd-25th, 2017 at the National Research Council (CNR).

The promoters of the initiative - Accademia Nazionale delle Scienze detta dei XL, CNR, LifeWatch-Italia, Associazione Nazionale dei Musei Scientifici, ECSA, Museo di Storia Naturale della Maremma, LTER-Italia and CSMON-Life - give great importance to the development of this participative approach to science in Italy, in view of the possibilities and methodologies it offers in support of research, and of the significant benefits it offers for scientific dissemination and for the promotion of a solid scientific culture in society.

It is the first national initiative and has the aim of assessing the state of the art of Citizen Science - which is well established in many European countries  -  with special emphasis on environmental sciences. It will create the opportunity to meet, exchange and debate ideas, methodologies problems and perspectives, in an European context.

On the occasion of the Conference, Rome will host two other events. On November 22nd, the Capacity Building Workshop for Bioblitz, organized by the European Citizen Science Association will take place at the Dipartimento di Biologia Ambientale of Sapienza University of Rome. Participation is restricted to the Bioblitz organizers. Through the sharing of best practice and the exchange of experiences between stakeholders from different countries, this 1-day workshop aims to discuss challenges and opportunities of the different approaches adopted for organising a BioBlitz. See the preliminary agenda on the event page of the ECSA website. On November 25th, the Museo Civico di Zoologia will host the workshop of the European Ecopotential Team on Citizen Science issues  in protected areas.
